Happiness is eating healthy?

“You are what you eat.” We have all heard that phrase. It conjures up pictures of people eating a drumstick and turning into a chicken themselves, but I know it goes much deeper than that. I think it was meant to express the idea that if you eat nothing but junk food, or things that are bad for you, you will not be at your best.
I have also heard it said that “the greatest wealth is health.” I think that is closer to the truth. While financial worries are very stressful, and personal problems can drag you down, there is little more scary than finding out you have a serious health issue.
The way most of us carry on when we have a cold or headache, should serve to remind us that we do not want to have any serious issues, if we can help it. And, you can avoid them to a degree.
While healthy eating in and of itself cannot assure you that you will never get sick, or even have something serious go wrong, overall it is a great guarantee that you will feel the best possible if you eat right.
This is not meant to be a column on what foods to eat, and what foods not to eat, but rather a basic common-sense guide on making healthy food choices so you feel as good as you can.
The basics of eating right~~~
By now we should all know to cut excess fat from our diets and limit the intake of carbohydrates, high-calorie sweets, and junk foods.
Just an increase in the amount of fresh vegetables and fruits will make your body feel better, and after a while, you will start to crave healthy foods more and more.
A lot of people have dietary issues, so be sure you speak with your doctor about making changes if you think there are restrictions.
For the rest of us, let’s all make this our healthiest year yet. And oh yeah, drink plenty of fresh water—it is great for you!

Dont Skip Breakfast!
Eating Breakfast is the Best Thing You Will do for Yourself! You get up and kick off the day with a coffee. You only have 10 mins so you rush for work without having breakfast. Maybe you buy a bagel and cream cheese on your way to work, but usually you don’t eat until lunch time.
A healthier way to start your day is to have breakfast. But I know: you lack time for that in the morning and never feel hungry. This post will help you. Here are 7 strategies to easily build the habit of eating breakfast within 30 days.
1. Start Small. If you get nauseas when you eat breakfast, start small and add food slowly but gradually. This gives your body time to adapt. Example:
1st week: 2 scrambled eggs.
2nd week: 2 scrambled eggs with a 1/2 cup spinach.
3rd week: 3 scrambled eggs with a 3/4 cup spinach and an orange.
2. Eat Less Pre Bed. Having a big meal just before you go to bed will mess with your sleep and will make you less hungry on waking up.
Have Pre Bed Snacks. Dinner 3h prior bedtime, snack 1h before going to bed. Example of good pre bed snack: cottage cheese with berries.
Stop Training 3h Prior Bedtime. So your post workout meal doesn’t fall too close to bedtime. But also because exercising right before going to bed can keep you awake (by raising your body’s temperature).

We can change it!

I recently read the book Half the Sky, and my feelings after reading this book are best described in the words of Tom Brokaw
"Half the Sky is a passionate and persuasive plea to all of us to rise up and say ‘No more!’ to the 17th-century abuses to girls and women in the 21st-century world. This is a book that will pierce your heart and arouse your conscience. It is a powerful piece of journalism by two masters of the craft who are tireless in their pursuit of one of the most shameful conditions of our time."
I now feel compelled to do something..but what can I do to stop sex trafficking of girls, women and children in red-light areas and slums in India? Thanks to Victoria a very special facebook friend I thought of a small way I may be able to help Apne Aap, this is the organization which is changing the lives of these girls. Here is their website-
http://apneaap.org/homepage
During the month of December if you purchase any item
from www.PureSynergyFitness.com
I will donate 50% of my commissions to
to Apne Aap. I will mail/email you a receipt to let you know the amount that was donated in your name!
If you have any questions or concerns you may email me at priaorth@gmail.com and of course feel free to make a donation directly to http://apneaap.org/homepage if you would rather do that.
If you have EVER thought about purchasing a beachbody program NOW is a great time to do so, I will also give you free coaching and your purchase cannot only help you become fit and healthy but will give a young girl access to education, livelihoods other than prostitution, and safe housing by organizing themselves in small co-operatives. It works in Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra and West Bengal. Apne Aap means self help in Hindi.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog.

Refined sugar is a "negative" nutrient...

this means that it is literally devoid of nutrition and using it actually makes your body use up stored nutrients to process it.
This leaves many people confused about what to use to sweeten their tea and other food and drinks.
First of all, the less of any sweetener you can use, the better... if you can slowly over time adjust your taste buds to enjoy the natural taste of foods and drink without the need for heavily sweetening them, you'll see many benefits for your body including maintaining more stable blood sugar and insulin levels, managing your body weight, and reducing inflammatory effects of too much sugars and artificial sweeteners.
In my tea I use a little Agave syrup ranks low on the glycemic index, meaning it doesn't raise blood sugar levels as quickly as sugar or honey. It's slightly lower in calories than other sweeteners, and it aids digestion. I buy it at one of my favorite stores Trader Joe's!
